TU Theatre presents a contemporary twist on “Lysistrata”

The University of Tulsa’s Department of Theatre will present a contemporary adaptation of the Greek comedy Lysistrata, directed by Machele Miller Dill, at 8 p.m. March 23-25 and at 2 p.m. March 26. A special matinee will be held for area high school students at 10 a.m. March 24. All performances will be held at the Lorton Performance Center on the TU campus.

Lysistrata, written by Aristophanes in 411 B.C., addresses issues that still cause women grief today. Gender, power and control collide in this rollicking sex comedy focused on the premise of what would happen if women ceased having sex with their husbands and lovers until all war stopped and the troops came home? Add in a feminine takeover of the treasury and the men have no recourse but to pay attention. With themes that resonate just as strongly today as in ancient Greece, as well as bawdy wit and humor that remain fresh and funny, Lysistrata explores the notion of ultimate power — SEX!

Admission is $15 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and area students, and $6 for TU students, faculty and staff. Tickets may be purchased online at myticketoffice.com, by phone at 918-631-2566 or at the Kendall Hall box office on the TU campus.
