Aviva JohnsAviva Johns (avj7348@utulsa.edu)

“Broadly, I am interested in historical trauma and how individuals heal from/cope with trauma. More specifically, I am interested in factors such as historical loss awareness, ethnic/cultural identity, communication style, environment, and everyday historical trauma reminders (e.g., micro and macroaggressions, anti-semitism, hate crimes/hate speech) in relation to how individuals experience, respond to, heal from, and cope with historical trauma and loss.”

Brooke PangelinanBrooke Pangelinan (bap2853@utulsa.edu)

“I am interested in researching historical trauma with CHamorus, the indigenous people of Guam, particularly understanding the impacts of colonization, historical loss, and the physical & psychological proximity to the trauma. I also want to examine the role of ethnic identity, specifically to explore whether it buffers the negative impacts of historical trauma on psychological distress.”

Mollie RischardMollie Rischard (mer597@utulsa.edu)

“My research broadly focuses on the assessment of trauma-related symptoms in youth, particularly within the arena of sleep disturbances. Specifically, I am interested in the instrumentation of valid and reliable tools to diagnose sleep pathology in children and adolescents. For my dissertation, I developed and am currently psychometrically evaluating the first structured diagnostic interview to evaluate DSM-5 sleep disorders in children aged 8-17. I am wrapping up data collection for my dissertation; I am currently on an internship at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Child Study Center.”

Jack StimsonJack Stimson (jrs3194@utulsa.edu)

“I am interested in studying trauma, resiliency, and strength as it relates to athletes and their well-being. Specifically, I am interested in advocacy for at-risk athletic populations and the possible role trauma plays in the lives of athletes. For my dissertation, I am examining the prevalence of institutional betrayal and its effect on retention in a student-athlete population.”
