The University of Tulsa Wind Ensemble was selected to perform at the College Band Directors National Conference (CBDNA) Southwest Division Conference in Houston on March 23. TU was the lone undergraduate-only ensemble invited to play.
“The invitation reflects the talent and dedication of our TU wind, brass and percussion musicians — both music majors and non-majors,” Assistant Professor of Music and Ensemble Director Richard Wagner said.
CBDNA promotes wind bands as a vehicle for education, character development and musical advocacy across the country; and the TU Wind Ensemble was chosen through a process of blind, juried audition tapes submitted by university ensembles throughout the southwest region.
“We will be performing a wide variety of wind band repertoire from standard works by Grainger and Holst to more recent compositions by Peter Van Zandt Lane and John Mackey,” Wagner said. They have even commissioned a new work by recent TU graduate Matthew Magerkurth (BM ’17) that will be premiered in Houston.
“It is a significant honor for the TU School of Music and its dedicated faculty,” Wagner said.
