The University of Tulsa School of Music presents the 6th annual TU Summer Chamber Music Camp beginning Monday, June 1, and running through Friday, June 5. The five-day camp is open to intermediate and advanced string students currently enrolled in middle and high school. In addition to individual and chamber group lessons, students will participate in presentations, workshops and electives. Daily noontime performances by TU faculty and students, alumni, and guest artists in the lobby of the beautiful Lorton Performance Center provide a relaxing break and opportunity to connect with performers, faculty and other students. A final concert showcasing the student chamber groups will be presented on Friday evening, June 5th. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Camp Schedule – June 1-5, 2020
Monday: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Tuesday – Thursday: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Friday: 9 a.m. to end of concert. Final concert will begin at 7pm*
*Dinner will be provided for students Friday evening before the showcase concert.
Faculty for the camp includes University of Tulsa professors and professional musicians whose careers as teachers and players are well established and widely respected in the region. The winning chamber group of this year’s TU-Chamber Music Tulsa Heckman Award Competition will serve as the resident intern chamber ensemble during the camp, assisting faculty and performing for the camp.
Required minimum level of playing: the ability to play a two octave scale and shift within the first four positions.
Auditions will be held in the Lorton Performance Center on May 13th (6-8 p.m.), May 14th (6-8 p.m.) and May 16th (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.). Individual audition times will be assigned upon completion of registration. Students should prepare an etude or solo and a major scale in two or three octaves. The purpose of the audition is to place students in ensembles by demonstrated level of technique and musicianship. Acceptance into the camp may be limited based on the number of chamber groups that can be accommodated.
Location and Facilities
The TU Summer Chamber Music Camp will be held on the campus of The University of Tulsa. All activities will be held in the Lorton Performance Center, home of the TU School of Music, 550 South Gary Place.
Lunchtime Brown Bag Concert Series
Concerts by TU faculty and students, alumni, and guest artists will be presented Monday through Friday during the noon hour in the lobby of the Lorton Performance Center. All are invited to bring their lunch and eat while enjoying these wonderful performances. These concerts are free and open to the public.
The fee for attending the camp includes all materials, classes, a camp T-shirt and dinner on Friday evening. Limited need-based scholarship assistance is available for qualifying students. Payment for camp is by check or money order.
