Chamber Music Camp

The TU Summer Chamber Music Camp is a five-day program beginning Monday morning and ending with the final concert Friday evening showcasing the student chamber groups. The camp is open to intermediate and advanced string students currently enrolled in middle and high school. Seniors who have just graduated from high school are welcome. Activities include string orchestra, chamber group coachings, private lessons, and faculty-led workshops covering a variety of topics. Daily noontime performances by TU faculty, students, alumni, and guest artists in the lobby of the beautiful Lorton Performance Center provide a relaxing break and opportunity to connect with faculty and other students. All concerts are free and open to the public.

Camp Schedule – June 5-9

Monday – Thursday: 9:00 a.m – 3:30 p.m.

Friday: 9:00 a.m. – Classes begin; 7:00 p.m. – Final Concert – Reception following concert

Pizza and veggies will be provided for dinner Friday evening before the final concert.

Camp Instructors

Camp faculty are University of Tulsa professors and other professional musicians whose careers as teachers and players are well established and widely respected in the region. The winning chamber group of the current year’s TU-Chamber Music Tulsa Heckman Award Competition will serve as the resident intern chamber ensemble during the camp, assisting faculty and performing for the camp.

  • Auditions

    Required minimum level of playing:  the ability to play a two octave scale and shift within the first four positions.

    An audition is required for the purpose of placing students in ensembles by demonstrating their level of technique and musicianship.  Acceptance into the camp may be limited based on the number of chamber groups that can be accommodated. Auditions will be held in the Lorton Performance Center May 18th (6-8 pm), May 19th (6-8 pm), and May 21st (10 am-1 pm). Students should prepare an etude or a solo, and a major scale in two or three octaves.

  • Location and Facilities

    The TU Summer Chamber Music Camp will be held on the campus of The University of Tulsa. All activities will be held in the Lorton Performance Center, home of the TU School of Music, 550 South Gary Place.

  • Lunchtime Brown Bag Concert Series

    Mini-concerts by TU faculty and students, alumni, and guest artists will be presented Monday through Friday during the noon hour in the lobby of the Lorton Performance Center. Students should bring their lunch to eat while enjoying these wonderful performances. These concerts are free and open to the public and will begin shortly after noon.

  • Financial Assistance

    Limited need-based financial assistance is available for qualifying students. These funds are intended to help families whose financial circumstances make it impossible for them to pay camp tuition.

    If you need financial assistance please contact Diane Bucchianeri. Students applying for assistance will be required to write a brief paragraph explaining their family’s need for financial assistance. Limit your paragraph to 150 words or less. All information will be held in the strictest of confidence.

  • Camp Fee/Enrollment

    The fee for attending camp covers all materials, classes, a camp T-shirt, and a pizza dinner on Friday evening. Students must provide their own instruments.

     

    Payment of $275 due by May 1, 2023

    Payment of $300 after May 1, 2023
