This annual two-week day band camp is open to students entering 9th grade through graduated seniors in high school. The camp begins on Monday, June 15 and runs through Friday, June 26th. There will be a total of three full band concerts:
- June 19 at 7:00 p.m., Lorton Performance Center – Gussman Concert Hall
- June 23 at 8:00 p.m., Tulsa Starlight Band Summer Concert Series at the Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa
- June 26 at 7:00 p.m. Lorton Performance Center – Gussman Concert Hall
The TU Summer Band Camp will focus primarily on large concert band repertoire and performance. In addition to the full concert band, the band will be divided into ‘chamber groups’ by instrument or instrumental family depending on available camp instrumentation (woodwind ensemble, brass ensemble, flute choir, clarinet choir, trumpet choir, percussion ensemble, etc.). The chamber groups will perform as part of the final festival concert.
The camp director is Richard Wagner, TU director of instrumental ensembles. The conducting staff for the two weeks will be Jeremy Parker from Bixby High School, Chris Koehn from Coweta High School, James Morrison from Broken Arrow High School, and Rod Mackey from Collinsville High School. There will be additional camp faculty from the TU School of Music and the Tulsa area TBA.
