This annual two-week day band camp is open to students entering 9th grade through graduated seniors in high school. The camp begins on Monday, June 12th, and runs through Friday, June 23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. There will be a total of three full band concerts:
- June 16th at 7:00 p.m., Lorton Performance Center – Gussman Concert Hall
- June 19th at 8:00 p.m., Tulsa Starlight Band Summer Concert Series at the Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa
- June 23rd at 7:00 p.m. Lorton Performance Center – Gussman Concert Hall
Curriculum
The TU Summer Band Camp will focus primarily on large concert band repertoire and performance. In addition to the full concert band, the band will be divided into ‘chamber groups’ by instrument or instrumental family depending on available camp instrumentation (woodwind ensemble, brass ensemble, flute choir, clarinet choir, trumpet choir, percussion ensemble, etc.). The chamber groups will perform as part of the final festival concert.
Camp Faculty
The camp director is Andrew Anderson, TU Director of Bands. The conducting staff for the two weeks will be Jeremy Parker, Artistic Director of the Tulsa Starlight Band and Bixby High School Director of Bands; Chris Koehn, Coweta High School Director of Bands; Rod Mackey, Collinsville High School Director of Bands, and Ryan Gartner, Jenks High School Assistant Director of Bands.
