The summer String Orchestra Camp is a five-day program beginning Monday morning and ending with a final showcase concert Friday evening. The camp is open to intermediate and advanced string students currently enrolled in middle and high school. Seniors who have just graduated are welcome. Activities include string orchestra, chamber group coaching, private lessons and faculty-led workshops covering a variety of topics. Daily noontime performances by TU faculty, students, alumni and guest artists in the lobby of the beautiful Lorton Performance Center provide a relaxing break and opportunity to connect with faculty and other students. All concerts are free and open to the public.
Camp Schedule
Monday-Friday: 9 a.m-5 p.m.
Friday:
- 5-7 p.m. – Dinner will be provided before the final concert.
- 7 p.m. – Final concert and following reception
Camp Instructors
Camp faculty are University of Tulsa professors, Tulsa Youth Symphony faculty, and other music educators whose careers as teachers and players are well-established and widely respected in the region.
Auditions
An audition is required for the purpose of placing students in ensembles by demonstrating their level of technique and musicianship. Auditions will be held in the Lorton Performance Center concurrent with the Tulsa Youth Symphony annual auditions. TYS auditionees may consider this their camp audition, along with a two-octave scale and sight-reading. Students who are not auditioning for TYS may attend camp auditions on Wednesday, June 28. Students should be prepared to play a two-octave scale, a three-minute solo and a sight-reading.
Location and Facilities
The TU Summer String Camp will be held on the campus of The University of Tulsa. All activities will be held in the Lorton Performance Center, home of the TU School of Music, 550 South Gary Place.
Lunchtime Concert Series
Mini-concerts by TU faculty and students, alumni and guest artists will be presented
Monday through Friday during the noon hour in the lobby of the Lorton Performance
Center. Students should bring their lunch to eat while enjoying these wonderful
performances. These concerts are free and open to the public and will begin shortly
after noon.
Financial Assistance
Limited need-based financial assistance is available for qualifying students. These funds are intended to help families whose financial circumstances make it difficult for them to pay camp tuition. If you need financial assistance please contact programs@tulsayouthsymphony.org. Students applying for assistance will be required to write a brief paragraph explaining their need for financial assistance. Limit your paragraph to 150 words or less. All information submitted is confidential.
Camp Fee/Enrollment
The fee for attending camp covers all materials, classes, a camp T-shirt and dinner on Friday evening. Students must provide their own instruments.

The TU Vocal and Choral Camp is a five-day summer camp for high school-aged singers who love vocal and choral music. TU vocal faculty along with guest artists will guide students in the preparation of classical solos appropriate for auditions and contests in daily private lessons and masterclasses. The choral portion will feature literature specially selected for the camp and will include preparation of the All-State High School Mixed Choir audition repertoire for the coming year.
