The Department of Educational Studies presents the field of education in the context of traditional arts and sciences disciplines. We seek to advance theory, research, and scholarship in the field of Education.
Through individual and collaborative research and writing projects, students in Educational Studies develop the content knowledge and skill needed to think critically about education. Education is conceived broadly; faculty and students focus on questions surrounding the aims and purposes of education and the nature of learners and learning institutions and contexts.
The Department’s approach is multi-disciplinary and involves scholarship in fields such as philosophy, psychology, anthropology, sociology, history, and political science. In addition, we are linked with the larger educational community, locally and internationally, in service of practice and policy.
